# Sift Privacy Policy

Sift (the "Extension") is a Chrome extension that lets users run search and AI actions on selected text.
This Privacy Policy explains what data is processed, why it is processed, and how it is handled.

## 1. Data We Process

The Extension may process the following data when the user uses features:

- User-selected text on a web page (only when the user explicitly triggers an action)
- Extension settings stored locally (provider choice, model, language, enabled actions)
- API keys provided by the user for third-party AI providers
- Basic operational metadata needed to complete a request (for example, chosen action type)

The Extension does not intentionally collect browsing history as a separate dataset.

## 2. Why We Process Data

We process data only to provide the requested features:

- Run search actions based on selected text
- Generate AI outputs (summary, translation, explanation) requested by the user
- Persist user preferences so the Extension works as configured

## 3. How Data Is Stored

- Settings and API keys are stored locally using Chrome extension storage.
- Prompt input/output history is not persisted by default.
- Data is not sold.

## 4. Third-Party Services

If the user selects a cloud AI provider, selected text may be sent to that provider API:

- Anthropic API
- OpenAI API
- Google Gemini API

Data handling by those providers is governed by their own privacy terms and policies.

If the user uses Chrome built-in AI, processing is intended to run locally on device depending on Chrome availability and behavior.

## 5. Data Sharing

We do not share user data with third parties except as required to fulfill user-requested AI actions through the selected provider.

## 6. Data Retention and Control

- Users can change or delete extension settings at any time.
- Users can remove the Extension at any time to stop all data processing by the Extension.
- Stored local data is controlled by the user through browser extension management and extension options.

## 7. Security

We take reasonable measures to reduce data exposure. However, no method of transmission or storage is guaranteed to be 100% secure.

## 8. Children

The Extension is not directed to children under 13.

## 9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be published with a new "Last updated" date.
